A hot topic

With the outcry at recent cauliflower prices soaring as high as $8 per head, I was astounded to catch this low price at my local Chinese grocer, so I snapped a picture and shared it with some friends who were trustworthy for reactions.

Of course then, the following ensued:

Me: Affordable cauliflower...but at a Chinese grocer...I bet it's an imitation cauliflower
Me: "Caurifrower"

dimps: LMFAO
dimps: that was too good.

Malcolm: Forget caurifrower, what's Finger Hot?

Nightcrawler: Lol! That's an STD.

I hadn't even noticed.

A true "what she saw/what he saw" situation...

Morning laugh

My work participated in the TELUS walk for diabetes this past weekend.  Getting back to work, my co-worker, who BAILED on the event, put out a general call for any pictures from the walk.  I'd snapped a cute selfie of my peeps, so I thought I'd send it to her.

To: Bailing co-worker
From: melody
Subject: Picture

Here you go, bailer. ;)

And then the response:

From _______, with love

My favourite souvenir to give and receive is a postcard, personally written and sent from wherever I (or the sender) has traveled to.  It's perfect: it (usually) gives a picture of where you are, you get to personalize it with a message, and then the postage and stamp is something unique to that country.  Not only that, it's delivered right to your door (or mailbox - whichever the case, it's for YOU).

Boxing day morning found me, JBG, and a few cousins lounging around the dining table over coffee and leftovers. For the hundredth time, I complained to K about the fact that I've sent her a ton of postcards from all the places I'd been to, but I'd still yet to receive one from her from ANYWHERE.  She'd even once sent one to our grandmother from Brazil. To accommodate the fact that grandma didn't read English, K had sent her a picture of herself in Brazil with the simple message on the back: "To grandma :) *heart* K." Grandma still hadn't understood the message or who it was from, but SHE'D GOTTEN A POSTCARD.

I digress.

Jupiter asked what the big deal was with postcards.

"It's just a postcard."

Just a postcard?

I left the table to go grab my collection of postcards I'd received from around the world. I selectively pulled out the ones JBG and Brodder had sent me, including a few randoms - even that selection turned out to be quite a number.

"I got this one when I was 8, from JBG. I spent WEEKS trying to positively identify him from the pictures...why would he lie?"

"This one, I hear the song in my head EVERYTIME I read it."
"What song?"
"Meow meow meow meow - you know...the Meow Mix song?"
"Oh yeah!" *laughs*

As we dug through my collection, there a lot of laughs and a sprinkling of gasps of horror at how ruthlessly hilarious the messages were.

"What's brown and hides in the attic?
The diarrhea of Anne Frank."
"Oh gawd, that's AWFUL!  But funny.  But AWFUL!"

Catching Jupiter in a laugh, I pointed at him.

"THIS is why you send postcards."

"Yeah, I get it now."

Indeed.

Stylin'

With the big day only 64 days away, Malcolm and I have been GSDing on high mode (Getting Shit Done).  While his suit is being custom tailored, we thought we might just see what it would cost to buy just a vest off the rack.  With this in mind, we stopped into Moore's Formalwear to see what they had. I went in and inquired with one of the saleswomen.

"Excuse me, do you sell any vests?"
"We mostly rent, but we do have a few. I have them in black and cream."
"Great, can we take a look?"
"Of course, they're just over here," she led us to the rack of vests and took a look at what was on display. "Oh, it looks like I have one more colour of vest as well..."

OMG.

Well, we ARE getting married out under the trees in a forest...and I like that it comes with the pre-tied tie and bowtie so that not only do you have options, but you don't have any hassle to worry about when it comes to putting it on.

A whale of words

Twitter's over capacity at the moment so I can't tweet.  It's not upsetting or anything, just inconvenient that it took so long for the twitter site to time out and tell me it was over capacity, leaving me to think there was something wrong with my internet connection in the meantime.

However, their "over capacity" page is kind of cute...

Out of date

I just clicked on all of my side links to other writers/artists.  The latest post from any one of them was June of last year.  One last posted in 2010. It made me sad.  Then I stumbled on this and was assaulted by a stream of colours and images and I was lifted.  Thanks, Tobias.

Off we go!

It's ten to one in the morning this fine, November day--we're sitting, waiting for our boarding call at the airport, pumped full of adrenaline and simultaneous exhaustion. I forgot my sunscreen and a hard copy of my itinerary, but hey, those are the things that keep it interesting, right?

I miss you all already--I would have sent some more personalized goodbyes, but my phone just died, of course.

See you on the other side [of the globe, that is]!
